What Happens To Men When They Have Low Testosterone?

Hormones change over time in men and this has an impact on a lot of the daily things we take for granted when we’re young. Testosterone is one of the hormones that dictate a lot about men’s health and is also one that changes considerably as we age. There are times in life when we’re young, for instance, when we have a lot of it circulating through our system.

As we get older, the levels drop off and we start feeling the effects since it’s such an important hormone. What happens when testosterone starts to decline? It can cause a lot of problems. In this article, we will go over what happens when you start seeing a drop in your testosterone.

Chronic fatigue

Once you get into your late 40s you will start noticing a drop in energy. This is pretty normal as you’re not as young as you once were and start to slow down.

What isn’t normal is to feel chronic fatigue very often. If you are active all day and getting enough rest at night and still feel run down and sluggish then this is a sign that your testosterone is getting low.

Unfortunately, this is an easily overlooked symptom since people just feel like it’s normal to be tired especially if you work a lot or are always busy.

If you feel like this is your case, then trying the best testosterone supplements will hopefully lift you up and give you an energy boost. Once you’ve tried that and it seems to work then it was simply a case of needing a bit more testosterone. When chronic fatigue continues then it is a good idea to see a doctor. Especially if you are showing some of the other signs of low testosterone.

Low sex drive

Since testosterone is so closely tied with male bodily functions, it’s only natural that sex drive would also suffer if you have low testosterone. Men over 50 that start losing testosterone have less of a desire to have sex and it can severely impact their marriage or relationships.

With a normal level of testosterone, it is not uncommon for men to keep their libido high until well into retirement. It shouldn’t be a given that if you are older then your sexual desires start to subside. You can still be sexually active well into old age with normal testosterone levels.

Erectile dysfunction

There are many causes of erectile dysfunction that have nothing to do with testosterone levels which ends up causing some confusion. However, if you are having trouble getting or maintaining an erection and show these other signs then it is likely caused by low testosterone.

Since testosterone governs other aspects of male physiology, it could even be an indirect result of some other ailment. For instance, obesity is also linked to erectile dysfunction and low testosterone can cause a loss of muscle mass and increased body fat. This can then go on to cause erectile dysfunction. If you are able to boost your testosterone, you’ll need to still fix the obesity problem before having normal erections again.
