Assessments

What is an assessment?

The Center for Global Health R&D Policy Assessment will produce a series of analytical papers that examine specific proposals for speeding the development of new health technologies for the developing world.

An assessment paper will provide an objective and rigorous view of a proposal or cluster of related proposals. Assessments should stimulate informed discussion. Our assessments should also help donors and other interested parties decide which ideas to support.

We will design these assessments to bring to the surface the strengths and weaknesses of particular ideas, rather than to issue a categorical “yes” or “no” or a rating of the proposal. When a proposal is not sufficiently detailed, we will point out the most critical gaps and suggest additional work that could deepen the proposal.

Our process

The assessments conducted by our center will involve literature reviews, economic and financial analysis, interviews with researchers and product developers, academic experts, potential product users, advocates, and potential donors. We will host forums for discussion and debate. In most cases, draft assessments will be available for public comment and final materials will be published to this website.

If you have a particular area of expertise and would like to be involved in the project, please send us a message.
